Elderslie to Quarriers

Distance – 6 miles each way

Surface – tarmac

Off road – yes, totally 🙂

Parking – on road at Elderslie. The bike path starts at the end of Canal Street and you can also join at Old Road

Climbs – none, it’s an old railway line though so is a a false flat on the way out and so easier on the return journey

Kid Suitability – all

Food – cafe at Quarriers (Three Sisters Bake) is what makes this ride worth doing! Best cakes ever!

Picnic – lots of grass at Quarriers

Bike hire – none that I am aware of

Millport

An oldy but a goodie!

Distance – 10 miles right round (but you may not want to do busy section from ferry to town and instead go the long way to the town and back which is not much more)

Surface – all road

Climbs – none (although you could go up over the middle if you really wanted a climb!)

Parking – best to park in Largs and go on ferry as foot passengers. Parking can be hard, we often end up at the marina area and cycle along

Off-road – no, and it is just your luck about traffic. It’s not busy but drivers can be idiots

Food – plenty options in Millport, plus cafe at Fintry

Picnic – probably the best option, loads of places to eat

Kid Suitability – all ages

Bike Hire – in Millport town

Callander to Strathyre

Distance – 9 miles each way

Surface – road or forest path (hard packed but a bit pot-holed)

Hills – a few small climbs, one quite steep but short so walkable

Off-road – mostly, one section on-road which is the entrance road to forest holidays. quiet when we did it!

Food – cafe at Forest Holidays, cafe and pub in Strathyre

Picnic – limited options before Strathyre

Parking – paid in Callander with direct access to path (£3.20 in 2019)

Kid suitability – need to be able to tackle inclines which can be long although not steep. Definitely ok for tagalong, a bit narrow at points but passable for trailers.

Bike hire – Callander and at the forest holidays site
